If you wish to forward a domain address that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is redirected to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be forwarded to the website that you've set up, but it'll also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all of the visitors from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record created for the main domain address makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting plan through our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia CP included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, that will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added this sort of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site through another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for example Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will take no more than a few clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will find a section committed to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted within the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), input where the latter will be forwarded to and save the modification. The new record is going to be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within a few hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and takes a click. In case you experience any issues, you can go through our comprehensive help article, watch the short video on the subject that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can simply contact us for help.
